Hand & Wrist Conditions and Treatments

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a compression of the median nerve at the wrist that causes numbness, tingling, burning pain, swelling, and sometimes itching.
Trigger fingers occur when there is swelling around tendons in the fingers resulting in the tendons not gliding smoothly. There can be pain, stiffness, and locking/clicking.
Osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist usually produces an intermittent dull to sharp pain in the specific joint involved that is usually worse with use.
A bone is commonly fractured, or broken, after a traumatic event such as a fall, jamming type injury such as getting hit with a ball, or punching something. Patients usually experience pain, swelling, bruising, and sometimes deformity.
Tendon and nerve injuries occur after a laceration has penetrated deep enough to cut one of these structures. Patients typically will experience an inability to move the specific finger/wrist and may have numbness.
Ganglion cysts are fluid filled masses found on the hands and wrists. These are not usually painful but can be painful with pressure.
